Detailed station information

The Athens NM station initiated its activity in November 2000, due to the efforts of Prof. H. Mavromichalaki - who since then has been the Principal Investigator (PI).

1-min and 1-hour data are available from the website of the station (http://cosray.phys.uoa.gr), while the resolution of the measurements reaches as far as 1-sec.

Since 2003 a new data processing center (Athens Neutron Monitor Data Processing Center - ANMODAP) collecting data from 23 real time NM stations together with satellite data from ACE & GOES, has been operating at the Athens NM station. Recently (2006), a real-time Ground Level Enhancement (GLE) Alert system has been set to service.

Cosmic ray (CR) research both at theoretical and experimental issues take part at the Athens NM station. Studies on Solar Proton Events (SPEs), Geomagnetic Events, Forbush decreases (FDs), Ground Level Enhancements (GLEs) and Biological effects of CR. Modelling of GLEs (NM-BANGLE) and FDs (FORD Model), together with the development of new hardware and software are part of the constant occupation of the Athens NM group.

Conditions for use of data

You are welcome to use Athens neutron monitor data under following conditions:

  1. You agree to acknowledge the source of data in any publication for example: “Athens neutron monitor data were kindly provided by the Physics Department of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.”

  2. You agree to send a copy of any paper using these data to: Mavromichalaki Helen, Nuclear and Particle Physics Section Physics Department National and Kapodistrian University of Athens 15771 Panepistimiopolis, Zografos-Athens, Greece

  3. Commercial or industrial use of the data is prohibited without previous agreement with the PI of the station (see name and address above)

  4. You may share these data with colleagues, provided you inform them of these conditions.
